Women’s soccer defeats Lake Michigan, loses to Muskegon

The Jackson College Jets women's soccer team overtook the Lake Michigan College Red Hawks Saturday 5-1 at Benton Harbor.

It was a team effort by the Jets leading to the victory. Kate McElhone scored first with an unassisted goal at the 6-minute mark, with Katie Brown scoring with an assist from McElhone at the 9-minute mark. Victoria Wade scored two goals, one at the 22-minute mark with an assist from Elena Vazquez, and at the 37-minute mark with assist from Shania Fox. Kayler Beech scored at the 48-minute mark, with an assist from Katelyn Brown. Goalie Katarzynia Polek took the win for the Jets.

On Wednesday, 10/17, the Jets dropped a game to Muskegon Community College, 2-0. They will play at Lakeland Community College at 3 p.m. Saturday.

With one regular season game left, the Jets are 11-5 overall, 7-3 in the MCCAA League, and 6-1 in the NJCAA Region XII Conference. The women have gained a spot in the Region XII Women's Soccer Championships, but this weekend's results will determine where they are seeded.


OCTOBER 6, 2018

Jackson College women's soccer came back in the second half of Saturday's game against the Lakeland Community College Lakers to win 2-0. It was the final home game of the season.

Skylar Gilbert scored at the 50-minute mark of the first half, with an assist from Kayler Beech. Teammate Cameron Kelley scored at the 65-minute mark, with an assist from Katie Brown. Goalie Katarzynia Polek takes the win.

Jackson is 5-0 in conference play in the NJCAA Region XII, Division I. They have a 5-0 conference record, and a 10-4 overall record. With the win, the Jets clinched a berth in the NJCAA Region XII Division I Tournament, set for Oct. 27-28 at Schoolcraft College.

They will play at Lake Michigan College at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Jackson College Jets soccer defeated the Schoolcraft College Ocelots 2-1 Wednesday at home.

Kayler Beach scored the Jets first goal at the 22-minute mark, with an assist from Cameron Kelley. The Jets second goal came from Paige Gunn a 34 minutes, with an assist from Kate McElhone.

Winning goalie for the Jets was Katarzynia Polek. With the win, the Jets are tied for first place in the MCCAA, with a 5-1-0 record in the conference and an 8-3-0 record overall.


SEPTEMBER 22, 2018

Jets women's soccer overcomes Ancilla

Women's soccer defeated the Ancilla Chargers Saturday, 4-1 at home.

Midfielder Katie Brown scored 2 goals on the day for the Jets, one unassisted at the 23-minute mark and another at the 70-minute mark assisted by Kate McElhone. Skyler Gilbert scored a goal at the 26-minute mark, with an assist by Amy Scruggs. McElhone scored at the 57-minute mark, with an assist by Cameron Kelley.

Goalie Katarzynia Polek received the win.


Women's soccer tops Parkland College 3-1

The Jackson College Jets women's soccer team overtook Parkland College 3-1 Sept. 7 at home, with 1 goal in the first and 2 in the second periods.

Scoring for the Jets were Skylar Gilbert at both the 1-minute and 58-minute mark, both goals unassisted; and Shania Fox at the 90-minute mark, assist by Kate McElhone. Goalkeeper Katarzynia Polek takes the win for the Jets.


Jackson College 3, Illinois Central College 2

On Saturday, the Jackson College Jets women's soccer team overcame Illinois Central College 3-2 for a win. They scored twice in the first and once in the second, while Illinois Central's goals both came in the second period.

Scoring for the Jets were Kayler Beech at the 2-minute mark, with an assist from Kate McElhone; Victoria King with an assist from Renata Cunningham at the 40-minute mark; and Skyler Gilbert with an assist from Elizabeth Francik at the 66-minute mark. Goalkeeper Katarzynia Polek took the win.


Jackson College 14, Scott Community College 0

On Sunday, the Jets shut out Scott Community College 14-0, scoring 8 in the first period and 6 in the second period.

Scoring summary includes: Skyler Gilbert with assist from Cameron Kelley at the 2-minute mark, then again with assist from Kate McElhone at the 3-minute mark; Paige Gunn scored unassisted at the 19-minute mark; Renata Cunningham scored with an assist from Shania Fox a the 24-minute mark; Katie Brown scored unassisted at the 28-minute mark; Victoria Wade scored with an assist from Victoria King at the 33-minute mark; Gunn scored with an assist from King at the 34-minute mark; Cunningham scored with an assist from Amy Scruggs at the 42-minute mark; Elena Vazquez scored with an assist from Gilbert at the 47-minute mark then gain with an assist from Brown at the 50-minute mark; Beach scored with an assist from Gilbert at the 54-minute mark; Gilbert scored unassisted at the 55-minute mark; King scored with an assist from Gilbert at the 56-minute mark; and Sydney Acosta scored unassisted at the 90-minute mark. Goalkeeper Katarzynia Polek took the win.

The Jets are 2-1 in the MCCAA Conference and 4-1 overall on the season. They will face Muskegon Community College at home at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
