Women’s basketball team signs 3 for next season

Jackson College welcomed three signees for the 2018-19 season recently.

Bre'Aira Burton graduates this year from Bridgeport High School in Bridgeport, where she's played guard for the Bearcats. She has been recognized academically for being on the Principal's List two years. In basketball, she has been named team Most Valuable Player and First Team All-Conference. "I chose Jackson College because in the summer of 2017, my team and I attended the Shootout (summer high school basketball team event) and I loved the feel of the court. Also, on my visit I had that "home" feeling. I love the help you can get at the school," Burton said.  Coach Heather Brown said Bre'Aira was her team leader. "We are looking for her to bring that to our roster," Brown added.

CharyAnna Pershay graduates this year from Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw. Pershay was a guard/forward for the Lumberjacks with Coach Jamar Hibbler. Her honors for basketball include Dream Team Honorable Mention, Second Team All Valley, Team Captain and Honorable Mention (twice), as well as Most Improved Player for volleyball, and in track – first place 200 meters and 4x100 meters. "I picked Jackson College because I feel like this would be a great fit for me," Pershay said. Brown added, "We are looking forward to having Chary on our team. She adds height and athleticism to our team."

Jade Thomas graduates this year from Henry Ford Academy in Detroit. She's a 6-foot-3 center who played for the Navigators with Coach Jeff Hachigian. Her academic honors include two years on the honor roll, Most Improved, and Always There Award. In basketball she has been team captain, Most Improved and All-Conference. "I love the environment; I think it will be a good experience at Jackson College," Thomas said. "I love the campus and the coaches. I think it will be a great journey." Brown added, "We are excited to have Jade on our team. She brings size and we look forward to having her be part of our program!"
