Chris Johnston enters his second season as the Jets head men’s basketball coach.

During his first season, the Jets were 16-12 and finished 5th in the conference, qualifying for the post season tournament.   “We brought in 12 freshmen that we thought would represent what we wanted to accomplish, so it took some time to get everything in place and figure out what everyone could do.  We had some quality student athletes to represent Jackson College and it paid off on the court and in the classroom.”

The Jets had five players make the Dean’s List for the 2021-22 academic year.  “They were very motivated not only on the court but in the classroom as well.  We are returning four players that made the Dean’s List, which is a big deal.  Those guys are culture changers and set the tone for the incoming freshman when it comes to academics.”

Johnston was an assistant coach with the Jackson College women’s team from 2019-2021.  In addition, he has also spent over 19 years as a head coach at varsity level and 24 years overall.

Johnston is a graduate of Oakland Community College and attended the Flint Regional Police Academy where he has been in Law Enforcement for over 20 years.  When not coaching basketball or in a gym, Johnston enjoys playing golf and fishing.

A native of Morenci, MI, Johnston has been married to his wife Jo Dee for 19 years and they reside in the Jackson. They have two sons, Cooper (17) and Sutton (15).
