Men’s basketball split recent games

Jets men's basketball picked up a win over Kellogg Community College Saturday, 81-78, then dropped Monday's game to Glen Oaks 70-73.

In Saturday's game against Kellogg, Marcellus Freeman was high scorer with 27 points, while both Ray Johnson and Jeremy Leonard scored 13 points. Johnson had 10 rebounds on the night.

In Monday's game with Glen Oaks, Freeman was high scorer again with 20 points, with Isaiah Collins scoring 12 and Dawan Evans 11 points. Johnson and Leonard both had 10 rebounds.

The Jets will play their last regular season game Wednesday at Lake Michigan College. They are 6-11 in conference play, 9-19 overall on the season


The Jets men's basketball team brought home a win Friday over the Grand Rapids Community College Raiders, 79-69.

While the Jets took the lead early and the first half was close, the Jets came out strong in the second half to build their lead. The Jets shot 46 percent in field goals compared to Grand Rapids 39.1 percent, and 41.4 percent in 3-pointers compared to GRCC's 24 percent. The Jets took 43 rebounds, compared to the Raiders 39. Jalen Martin was high scorer for the game with 23 points, with Marcellus Freeman right behind him with 21 points. Jeremy Leonard also scored in double digits with 11 points.

The Jets are 5-7 in the MCCA Western Conference, 8-15 overall. They face Muskegon CC at home Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., in the Pink Out Games benefitting the Turning Point program of the YMCA.


Jets men's basketball fought but lost their game Saturday (Feb. 1) to Kalamazoo Valley CC, 74-76.

The Jets tied the game in the final minutes of the second half, at the 2:09-minute mark, but then went behind the Cougars with just 37 seconds left in the game when Kalamazoo made two free throws to go ahead, holding the lead for the win.

Marcellus Freeman was the high scorer for the Jets with 20 points, followed by Jeremy Leonard and Jalen Martin, both with 18 points, and Ray Johnson with 11. Leonard also had 11 rebounds on the game.

The Jets are 3-6 in the MCCAA Western Conference, 6-14 overall. They will travel to Lansing CC Monday, then return home to face Ancilla College Wednesday.


The Jets men's basketball team lost to the Jayhawks of Muskegon Community College Wednesday (Jan. 15), 85-67.

The Jayhawks outmatched the Jets in shooting (42.9 percent to 33.3 percent), 3-pointers (34.8 percent to 28 percent) and in rebounds (36-34). High scorers for the Jets were Ray Johnson and Isaiah Collins 13 with points each; Johnson also nabbed 10 rebounds. Jalen was close with 12 points, and Dawan Evans had 10.

The Jets are tied for 8th place in the MCCAA Western Conference with a 1-3 record this year, 4-11 overall.


The Jets men's basketball team picked up their first conference win of the season Friday (Jan. 10) with a 63-60 victory over the Raiders of Grand Rapids CC.

Guard Dawan Evans came off the bench to be the high scorer for the night with 16 points and 3 rebounds. Also scoring in double digits were guard/forward Ray Johnson with 12 points and 13 rebounds, and guard Jean Youte with 11 points and 3 rebounds.

The Jets' record is 4-10 overall and 1-2 in the MCCAA season so far. They travel to Muskegon Community College Wednesday (Jan. 15) at 7:30 p.m.
