Basketball teams wind up season

Men's Basketball Highlights

69-67

The Jackson College Jets men's basketball team got off to a strong start in their Feb. 8 game against Mid Michigan College in Mount Pleasant, but the Lakers came back in the second to win the game by one basket, 69-67.

Guard/forward Brody Love was the leading scorer for the jets with 19 points, followed closely by Jalen Martin and Noah Osebor who both had 18 points. Love was also the leading rebounder, with 13 for the night.

95-88

The Jackson College Jets soared higher than the Lansing Stars in their Feb. 11 game at home, winning 95-88.

The teams went into halftime tied at 45 each, but the Jets pulled ahead in the second half, 50-43, for the win. High scorer for this game again was Brody Love with 22 points and 14 rebounds, followed by Noah Osebor with 19 points, Jalen Martin 18 points and Connor Pelham 11 points.

71-64

The Jets men's basketball team dropped a game to Glen Oaks Community College on Feb. 14, 71-64.

The Vikings outscored the Jets 39-29 in the first half. The Jets battled back in the second half, outscoring the Vikings 35-32, but came up short overall. Connor Pelham was high scorer for the night with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Also hitting double digits was Noah Osebor with 14 points.

85-79

It's a nail-biter as the Jackson College Jets and the Lake Michigan College Red Hawks went into overtime Feb. 16. The Jets ended up with the win, 85-79.

Nine points difference told the story in the first and second halves of regulation play: Lake Michigan outscored the Jets 45-36 in the first half, and the Jets came back to outscore Lake Michigan 39-30 in the second half, forcing the game into overtime. With a 10-4 score in OT, the Jets got the win.

Connor Pelham was the high scorer for the night with 22 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double. Noah Osebor also hit a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Jalen Martin came off the bench to score 13 points, while Jared Sietsema scored 12 and Brody Love, 10.

94-88

Jets men's basketball fell to the Ancilla College charger Feb. 20, 94-88.

After going into half time with the score tied 40-40, the Chargers pulled ahead in the second half, 54-48, to take the game. High scorer for the Jets was Jalen Martin with 28, followed closely by Noah Osebor with 27 and 17 rebounds. Connor Pelham had 13 points and 12 rebounds on the night.

101-71

The Jets men's basketball team scored a decisive victory over Kellogg Community College on Feb. 23, 101-71. The Jets lead both first and second halves, 41-29 in the first and 60-42 in the second.

Connor Pelham was the high scorer for the jets with 26 points and 16 rebound, while teammate Noah Osebor scored a triple-double with 23 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Also scoring in double digits were Chase Pierce, 17, and Jared Sietsema, 13.


Women's Basketball Highlights

 

79-57

Jackson College women's basketball overtook the Lansing Community College Stars on Feb. 11, winning 79-57.

While the score was close through most of the game, the second quarter saw the Jets outscore the starts 29-10, establishing a lead they would hold throughout the game. Taylor Hutchinson came off the bench for the Jets and was high scorer with 25 points. Also in double digits were Bre'Aira Burton, 16, Arjanae Morgan, 10, and Charyanna Pershay, 10. 

78-74

The Jets women's basketball team overcame the Glen Oaks Community College Vikings in their game Feb. 14, winnings 78-74. 

While the Vikings got off to a good start in the first quarter, outscoring the Jets 19-12, they couldn't hold the lead. The teams tied in the second quarter, and the Jets led in both third and fourth quarters.

High scorers for the Jets were Arjanae Morgan with 22, and Charyanna Pershay also had 22 points along with 11 rebounds for a double-double. Taylor Hutching came off the bench to score 13 points.

78-48

The Jackson College Jets fell to the Red Hawks of Lake Michigan College Feb. 16, 78-48.

While the first quarter saw a tight game with the Jets up by 1, 9-8, the Red Hawks came back in the second, third and fourth quarters for the win. High scorer for the Jets was Charyanna Pershay with 24 points. She was the only Jet in double digits, while the Red Hawks had five players score in double digits.

 

102-74

Jackson College's women's basketball lost a heartbreaker to the Ancilla College Chargers Feb. 20, 102-74.

Ancilla College took the lead in the first quarter and held it throughout the game. While the Jets did have four players score in double digits, they couldn't overcome Ancilla. High scorer for the night was Charyanna Pershay with 24 points. Also scoring in double digits was Bre'Aira Burton with 17 points, Makaiyla Perdue with 12 points, and Taylor Hutchinson with 11 points.

74-71

Jackson College Jets women's basketball lost a close one to Kellogg Community College Feb. 23, 74-71.

Kellogg took off to a big lead in the first quarter, scoring 26-12. The Jets tried to battle back, but couldn't overtake the Bruins by the final buzzer.

High scorer for the game was Charyanna Pershay with 17 points, followed by Kristaun Boykins and Marissa Shaw, both with 15, and Arjanae Morgan came off the bench to score 12.

70-67

As the conference season winds down, the Jackson College Jets women's basketball took a win over Kalamazoo Valley CC Feb. 25, 70-67.

Kalamazoo Valley got off to a strong start in the first quarter, 23-16, but the Jets came back in the second and third quarters to close the gap. They outscored the Cougars 26-17 in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

High scorer for the night was Charyanna Pershay with 27 points. Also scoring in double digits was Bre'Aira Burton with 12.
