Lakeland 87, Jackson 69
The Jackson College Jets dropped a game to the Lakeland Community College Lakers Dec. 30, 87-69.
The Jets faced a strong defense by the Lakers, who led in scoring in all four periods of the game. Leading scorers for the Jets were Sandra Guilford, guard, with 18; Sydney Brown, guard, with 11 and Chelsea Palmer, forward, with 10. Forward Jordan Blanks was strong on the rebounds with 9, and Guilford nabbed 7 rebounds.
With the lost, the Jets were 2-6 in the preseason.
Jackson 90, Lakeland 67
The Jackson College Jets men's basketball scored a victory against the Lakeland Community College Lakers at home Dec. 30, 90-67.
With four starters and two off the bench scoring in double digits, the Jets led throughout the game. Point guard Devaughn Munson had a big game and leading scorer, with 16 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Forward Noah Osebor scored 13, guard/forward Michael Bruce scored 12, and guards Brandon Thomas and Andrew Nicholson both scored 11.
With the win, the Jets were 6-4 in the preseason.
Conference Play begins 2018
Grand Rapids 63, Jackson 51
The Jackson College Jets dropped their first conference game of the season Jan. 4 at Grand Rapids, losing 63-51 to the Raiders.
Guard Sandra Guilford was the leading scorer for the Jets with 14 points and 9 rebounds, followed by guard Sydney Brown with 13. With the loss, the Jets were 0-1 in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association conference and 2-7 record overall.
Grand Rapids 89, Jackson 84
The Jackson College Jets men's basketball dropped a heartbreaker in their first Michigan Community College Athletic Association conference game with Grand Rapids Community College, losing 89-84 in Grand Rapids on Jan. 4.
The Jets were up 35-32 at halftime, but the Raiders -- led by Guard Curtis Davison who scored 36 points -- came back strong in the second half.
Leading scorer for the Jets was guard/forward Jagger Surface with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Point guard Devaughn Munson scored 15 with 10 rebounds, guard Andrew Nicholson Jr. scored 14 with 5 rebounds, guard/forward Jermayne Golidy scored 13 with 10 rebounds, guard/forward Kayron Rodgers scored 11 with nine rebounds, and forward Karinn Davis Jr. scored 11 with 9 rebounds.
The Jets went 0-1 in their conference record, and 6-5 overall for the season.
Jackson 77, Lansing 85
The Jets women's basketball team fell to the Lansing Community College Stars Jan. 6, losing 85-77. The Jets fought for it, but couldn't hold on against the Stars, led by high scorer Jaylynn Williams with 30 points on the night.
Forward Chelsea Palmer was leading scorer for the Jets, with 20 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Sydney Brown scored 12, guard/forward Kelsey Underhile scored 11, and guard/forward Dajunae Favorite scored 10.
With the loss, the Jets go 0-2 in the conference this season, with an overall record of 2-8.
