Esports off to winning start

Jackson College's Esports team has come together for a strong third season and continued growth.

The College launched Esports – competitive video gaming -- in 2019. Teams continued to play throughout the pandemic, and new coach Toby Montgomery continues to build the program. The College team competes in League of Legends and Rocket League, and an Overwatch team is in the works. The team has 10 players, including its first female player.

"Gaming has been a major hobby of mine," Montgomery said. "I figured that this was a moment where I could take that personal knowledge and experience and then apply that into situations where I'm bringing people together to play as a team."

Team members work well with each other, whether together in the Jets Esports Arena or remote. "They will play games outside of actual practices and are friends with each other. Being part of an official team gives them a chance to find others that share their passion and build upon that."

More players are welcome and can join the roster up until the playoffs. Athletes should be full-time students with at least a minimum grade point average of 2.0.
