Baseball splits with Jackson

DETROIT, Mich- On Thursday (April 27), the Schoolcraft College baseball team hosted the Jets from Jackson College in a divisional doubleheader.

Game 1- Game 1 was a very back and forth affair that you would expect from the first and second place teams. Schoolcraft would get on the board first in the bottom of the second when Noah Felder would have a two out single to score Nate Saavedra (single). Jackson would get that run back plus one more in the top of the third to take a 2-1 lead after 2.5 innings of play. Like Schoolcraft has done most of the year, they responded quickly by getting a run in the bottom of the third thanks to a Bryan Tuttle single to score Landon Kempainen (single) to tie the game at 2 apiece. The game would remain tied at 2 until the bottom of the fifth when the Ocelots would plate 2 runs, 1 on a Tuttle double and Tuttle would come around to score on a Mason Malysz single. Heading into the sixth, Schoolcraft would lead 4-2. The Jets would get back on the board in the top of the sixth with a two out single. Once again, Schoolcraft would respond quickly in the bottom half when Andrew Thorning would hit a sacrifice fly to score Sawyer Pace, who, tripled the at-bat before. The Jets would put a little rally together in the top of the seventh, scoring 1 run, but ultimately, Schoolcraft would come out on top 5-4. Kempainen, Saavedra, Tuttle and Felder all had multiple hits in the game while Pace, Ryan Koch, and Malysz each would add a knock. Jack Zang would get the win on the mound going, 5 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 7 K. Jon Sabuda got his third save of the year with, 2 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 K.

Game 2- The Jets would come out hot in the second game, plating 4 runs in the top of the first. Schoolcraft would not get on the board until the bottom of the fourth, trailing 5-0 at the time, when Tuttle would single home Thorning (single). Down 5-1, the Ocelots would make a comeback in the bottom of the fifth by scoring three runs in the inning. Thorning singled to score John Sowards (walk) and Thorning and Pace (HBP) would come around to score off a Jackson throwing error. After 5 innings of play, Schoolcraft trailed 5-4. Over the next 2 innings, Jackon would score 6 unanswered run to win the game, 11-4. Schoolcraft only mustered 3 hits in the game, 2 from Thorning and 1 from Tuttle.

The season series between these 2 teams currently stands at 2-1 in favor of the Ocelots. The series is scheduled to wrap up Saturday (April 29) with the first game beginning at noon. As always, follow along here at, schoolcraftocelots.com for live stats.
