Reivers Cruise In Season Opener

Jackson, MI: The Reiver Women's Soccer Team outscored Jackson CC 7-1 on opening day to start the season 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  The Reivers used 6 different scorers to fly by the Jets. Sophomore Paula Boza opend and closed the scoring netting goals in the 19th and 77th minutes. The Reivers's leading scorer from a year ago also picked up an assist to go along with her opening day brace. Sophomore Ririka Kamimura would double the score line in the 26th minute with her first of the season. Newcomer Rylie Jacobsen created the goal with speedy wing play on the right side to find the 2nd year forward. It would be Jacobsen's first of 2 assists on the day. Despite having play for most of the half, the first frame ended 2-0. Sophomore Anna Hall would open the scoring in the second half off well-timed through ball from Boza. Hall raced paced the Jet backline, took 2 touches, and blasted home her first of the season. Freshman midfielder Marie Quentel notched her first goal as a Reiver with a shot from distance after a clever lay-off from Ririka Kamimura. The France native placed her shot top shelf to make the scoreline 4-0. Sophomore Ella Pelletier added a fifth just 3 minutes later with a shot just outside the 18 after recovering an errant pass. The Jets would ruin the shutout with a consolation goal in the 58th. The Reivers would answer with 2 more goals to close off the game. Freshman midfielder Addison Moser finished off a great team move with a clinical finish in the box that found side netting, assisted by Jacobsen's second of the match. Moser would then turn provider to set up Boza's second goal in the 77th minute.

NOTES & NUMBERS: The Reivers win on opening day for the 3rd consecutive year. The Reivers 6 different scorers is the most since an ICCAC Match in 2013. In a match that saw 39 total shots (32-7), neither team registered a corner kick.

QUOTES: Head Coach Adam Sanchez: "Today was a positive first step. It was great to see so many individuals contribute to a good team perfomance. However, the season is going to be a long one and there is going to be many twists and turn in the campaign. Despite a good opening day performance, we need to be better in all aspects of the game and we can be. This group has the potential to grow into one of the elite teams in the country. We're not there yet, but we know if we continue to work and grow, we can do some special things this year."

UP NEXT: The Reivers have a quick turn-around and face #10 Monroe CC August 20th in a rematch of last season's NJCAA National Tournament Group D Match-Up. The Tribunes will be seeking for revenge of a 3-0 result as the Reivers ended Monroe's Spring 2021 campaign. The match will be hosted on the Jackson CC campus.
