Blake Higgins drafted by St. Louis Cardinals
ST. LOUIS, Mo., June 20, 2013 - The St. Louis Cardinals draft Blake Higgins in the 16th round pick, right-handed pitcher Blake Higgins (Jackson Community College, Mich.).
Higgins, a Mount Pleasant, Mich., native, played collegiately at Jackson Community College in Michigan.
"We are really excited to have landed a high-caliber power arm," said Kantrovitz. "Our scout, Brian Hopkins, did an excellent job of seeing Blake multiple times before he went down with an injury early in the Spring. Brian saw his fastball up to 96 with a real quality curveball. Blake underwent successful Tommy John surgery before the draft and will begin pitching for us in 2014. We are looking forward to getting him healthy and back out on the mound."
“Blake has worked hard in his two year at Jackson Community College and has represented the program in a professional manner,” said Jets baseball coach Rick Smith. “I am so happy for him. The Jets family wishes Blake the best and will be his best fans.” In addition to Higgins’ good fortune, Jets baseball had nine other players who all signed letters of intent to play baseball next year for four-year colleges and universities.”

JCC baseball alum heading to Major League team
Jackson Community College congratulates alumnus and past Jets baseball player Dan Bream, who was drafted this week by Major League Baseball’s Tampa Bay Rays in the 33rd round.
Bream, a pitcher, graduated from Coldwater High School. He played for the JCC Jets during the 2008 and 2009 seasons, then transferred to Southern Arkansas University where he played the 2010 and 2011 seasons. He still holds JCC’s record for career and season strikeouts with 109 in his two years at JCC, 69 of those coming in the 2009 season. He is also at the top of the record book for the Jets in career and season wins, with 12 wins in his two years as a Jet, 10 during his sophomore season. His ERA was 1.388 in 2009.
“What I remember most about Dan Bream is that infielders hated to make errors behind him because they had to face him in the dugout,” said JCC baseball coach Rick Smith. “His leadership on the mound forced the players around him to be on their A game. The level of intensity that Dan brings to the game is second to none. His work ethic will be an asset to the Tampa Bay organization. When I recruit for pitchers, I am always looking for someone like Dan.”
Bream was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association’s All-American Division II second team for 2009 season.
